The tables have turned on Nancy Pelosi after President Donald Trump sent her a letter of his own.
Previously, the House Speaker had sent a letter to the president advising him to postpone his State of the Union address, or at the least, submit it in writing. She claimed that the continued government shutdown had caused a growing “security concern” that she believed justified the delay.
However in a tit for tat response, Trump issued a letter to her that stated, “Due to the Shutdown, I am sorry to inform you that your trip to Brussels, Egypt, and Afghanistan has been postponed.”
However where Pelosi seemed to be drawing on imagined threats, Trump’s reasoning was sound and to the point.
“I also feel that, during this period, it would be better if you were in Washington negotiating with me and joining the strong border security movement to end the shutdown,” Trump explained.
The president did offer an alternative though. Granting that if Pelosi was willing to forgo a private jet she could certainly still arrange the trip.
“Obviously, if you would like to make your journey by flying commercial, that would certainly be your prerogative,” Trump remarked.
Pencil in one more point for Trump in the ongoing battle against obstinate Democrats.
