Steve Scalise is speaking out against a letter that House Speaker Nancy Pelosi sent to President Trump.
In the peculiar letter, Pelosi suggests that Trump reschedule an intended State of the Union address until after the government reopened or submit the speech to Congress in writing.
Pelosi attempted to claim “security concerns” as the reason. She claimed that the ongoing shutdown had impaired the ability of both the U.S. Secret Service as well as the Department of Homeland Security, agencies which are typically responsible for maintaining security at such events.
However that excuse fell flat for Scalise, who is House Minority Whip.
He blasted Pelosi’s recommendation asking, “What are Democrats afraid of Americans hearing?”
“That 17,000+ criminals were caught last year at the border? 90% of heroin in the US comes across the southern border? Illegal border crossings dropped 90%+ in areas w/ a wall?” he said answering his own question.
Scalise closed by adding on his Twitter that, “This decision makes clear what we already know: Democrats are only interested in obstructing @realDonaldTrump, not governing.”
