Repercussions of the sudden halt of a summit in Vietnam between U.S. President Donald Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un are still being felt weeks after.
In Pyongyang, Vice Foreign Minister Choe Son Hui shared how North Korea was experiencing widespread disappointment at the failed Hanoi meeting.
Discrepancies have cropped up in the reasons each nation claims the talks fell apart on. The U.S. claims that North Korea wanted total relief from U.S. sanctions in return for its cooperation. Meanwhile North Korea claims it was the U.S. that was dissatisfied with North Korea’s offerings.
“What is clear is that the U.S. has thrown away a golden opportunity this time,” Choe said. “I’m not sure why the U.S. came out with this different description. We never asked for the removal of sanctions in their entirety.”
Despite this announcement, Choe maintained that the relationship between Kim and Trump continues to thrice and “and the chemistry is mysteriously wonderful.”
