While Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell has been a solid supporter of President Trump in 2019, he is now warning the president that this one move could have a “potentially catastrophic economic impact.”
McConnell was telling reporters that he agreed with Trump in regards to there being a crisis at the southern border, but he urged caution as the fallout from shutting down the border could be severe.
“We certainly have a crisis on the border. I think the president’s right about that. Closing down the border would have potentially catastrophic economic impact on our country, and I would hope we would not be doing that sort of thing,” McConnell stated.
This comes on the heels of Trump announcing that, “if we don’t make a deal with Congress, the border’s going to be closed. 100 percent.”
“Or we’re going to close large sections of the border, maybe not all of it. But it’s the only way we’re getting a response, and I’m totally ready to do it,” he also shared.
President Trump makes a good point here, if Democrats weren’t opposed to Trump every step of the way the issue would likely already be solved.
